What WP-SS31 is

SS-31 (elamipretide, Bendavia) is a synthetic aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Its alternating aromatic and basic residues drive selective, membrane-potential-independent accumulation in mitochondria.

Mechanism described in the literature

SS-31 binds cardiolipin, the signature phospholipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane, and is described as protecting cristae architecture, improving electron-transport-chain coupling and limiting cytochrome c peroxidase activity. It is one of the most-cited mitochondria-targeted peptides in ischemia–reperfusion, kidney and heart-failure research models.

Handling and storage

Store sealed vials at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture. 2–8 °C is acceptable for short periods such as transit and receiving. Allow a cold vial to reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation on the lyophilized cake.

Vials ship sealed, cushioned and with a desiccant pack in plain packaging. Each vial is labeled with the product code, net content and the research-use designation. A packing slip lists the product codes and quantities ordered.
