What WP-SMX is

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, built from the ACTH(4–7) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension that confers enzymatic stability. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics, Moscow, and is studied as a melanocortin-derived neuropeptide without the hormonal (adrenal) activity of ACTH.

Mechanism described in the literature

In rat hippocampus and glial-cell models Semax rapidly increases expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB, and it has been reported to modulate expression of genes in the immune and vascular systems in ischemia models. Its activity is studied in the context of neurotrophin signaling rather than melanocortin-receptor pharmacology.

Handling and storage

Store sealed vials at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture. 2–8 °C is acceptable for short periods such as transit and receiving. Allow a cold vial to reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation on the lyophilized cake.

Vials ship sealed, cushioned and with a desiccant pack in plain packaging. Each vial is labeled with the product code, net content and the research-use designation. A packing slip lists the product codes and quantities ordered.
